Warkworth Historical Village

A 3 minute drive away, this is a pretty village on a river bank park with an interesting historical walk, good shopping, restaurants, cafés, bars, art and craft shops. The Warkworth Visitor Information Centre, www.warkworthnz.com, is one of the best information centres in the country with friendly, helpful and informative staff most of whom are volunteers.

Matakana Village

3½ minutes from Cedarhouse. Sample a slice of community life in this market village with its boutique shops, cinemas, cafés bars and restaurants... even the public toilets are fun to visit!

Matakana Farmers’ Market

The weekend Farmers’ Market in the Village at Matakana

A showcase of all local produce every Saturday (8am-1pm summer and 9am-1pm winter), with live music in the summer. Try the yummy blueberry icecream, whitebait fritters, specialty sausages, breads, chutneys, pastries, award-winning Puhoi Cheeses, or popular locally roasted and blended coffee beans. Finish off with a seriously good piece of baking from the award-winning Matakana Patisserie (www.matakanapatisserie.co.nz). Country Park Market

Just 1 minute drive past Matakana Village, every Saturday morning. Art, craft, plants and entertainment. Great children’s playground, a train to ride, animals to see and feed. Country Kitchen Café makes great coffee and homemade goodies. Very child friendly.

Food and Wine

Warkworth is the gateway to New Zealand’s beautiful Matakana Coast Wine Country - a region of the good things in life! A visit to the Matakana Coast area is a gastronomic delight and a treat for the soul with its fresh locally grown produce, often available at roadside stalls. Limes, olives, avocados, herbs, persimmons, chestnuts, blueberries, fish, oysters, venison, duck, organic fruit & vegetables and free range eggs. The area’s chefs are spoilt for choice!
